The We are Vanguard series offers a glimpse into everyday life at Vanguard, highlighting stories and perspectives from our colleagues across the world. By having candid conversations, we learn more about their responsibilities and the values that influence our culture.
This issue features an interview with Rajesh Kumar, Human Resources Manager for Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Egypt, who shares what sets the region apart and highlights his favourite parts of the job.
What is your role?
I lead HR for HR for Indian Subcontinent, Middle East & Egypt at Vanguard, partnering closely with our business teams to build a high-performing, engaged, and future-ready workforce. My role is about aligning people strategy with business outcomes ensuring we attract the right talent, enable growth, and create an environment where our teams can do their best work while delivering consistently for our customers.
What is unique about your region from a logistics lens?
ISC&ME and Egypt is one of the most dynamic regions in global logistics. It brings together fast-growing markets, complex trade corridors, and diverse operating environments. This means agility is not just a capability, it’s a necessity. The region challenges us to think differently, act quickly, and collaborate deeply, which ultimately strengthens how we deliver value to our customers.
What differentiates Vanguard?
At Vanguard, our differentiation lies in our people and our approach. We combine global expertise with local insight, and we do it with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. There’s a clear focus on collaboration, responsiveness, and long-term partnerships with both customers and colleagues. It’s a culture where people step up, support each other, and take pride in delivering excellence!
What’s your favourite thing about Vanguard?
My favourite aspect of Vanguard is the culture of inclusivity and openness. There is a genuine emphasis on listening to each other, valuing diverse perspectives, and fostering growth. It’s an environment where individuals are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work, which makes a significant difference in engagement and performance.
What are the key trends you are noticing in the industry?
We’re seeing a significant shift toward digitalisation and data-driven decision-making. Customers expect greater visibility, speed, and reliability, and technology is enabling that. At the same time, resilience and sustainability are becoming central to supply chain strategies. The organisations that lead are those that can balance efficiency with adaptability.
What advice would you give to young professionals considering a career in logistics?
Logistics is a career built on learning, adaptability, and impact. My advice would be to stay curious, be open to challenges, and build a strong understanding of both operations and relationships. This industry rewards those who can think ahead, collaborate effectively, and remain solution-oriented in a fast-changing environment.
